Knitting again, slowly

Have I ever been a terrible blogger/knitter! Truth be told I just haven't really had the time to knit in recent months. But I have been chugging along very slowly on some projects, I've been knitting the same pair of socks for the past 4 months, and I'm working on some baby stuff (which should be quick knits, but which seem to be taking forever). I've also done a bit of knitting from stash, here's a Chevron Scarf from Last Minute Knitted Gifts done in some Koigu that I bought at Lettuce Knit last August (click for bigger):

Koigu Chevron Scarf

Project specs:
Chevron Scarf from Last Minute Knitted Gifts
Koigu KPPPM P539, 3 skeins
No modifications to the pattern, except I only used one colour instead of alternating two colours.

Next up, some baby stuff!

Some FO's

While I can't say that I've been a diligent blogger, I have been knitting. So, here's some photos of things that I've finished in the last little while.

From Knitting

This is my rendition of the Baby Tart hat from Knitty. Considering the upcoming baby boom among our friends, I thought it would be a good idea to get moving on the baby stuff.

From Knitting

These were some armwarmers that I knit for my friend Jia. It's a really simple pattern that I made up, and it's knit out of Shine Sport from Knit Picks in Orchid. I have to say that yarn knits up REALLY nicely. It feels super soft, and for a cotton yarn that really is something else.

Stash enhancement!!

Okay....so, as much as I wanted to stash bust, I couldn't resist the lure of more yarn. I think of it as retail therapy. Jamie's been away for a week, and I've been feeling sick and lonely. So, what better way to cure that than with some shopping, right? I actually did my shopping over the internet though. I was only planning to buy a couple skeins to make a small project for a friend of mine, as well as some baby things for other people from Knit Picks. But in the end, I wound up buying more than just that. I got a whole ton of other yarn for two sweaters that I'd like to make, plus something a little luxurious for a scarf. I guess the only saving grace is that I actually have projects pegged for all of the yarn. I'll be sure to update with all my new goodies when they arrive!

Do I just have a small head?

From Knitting

So, I went and knit my own version of Calorimetry, shown above complete with kitty for scale (ha ha). I checked the gauge and everything, and I'm even knitting a bit smaller than the recommended gauge...and it's still too big for my head. Well, I can wear it if I use one of the button holes that's really high up, but that leaves on flap kinda dangling.

This was mostly an attempt to stash bust, and I suppose it was good for that...except I can't decided if I can even wear it or not!

How about this?

In my quest for something to make out of all that Misson Falls cotton that I frogged, I came upon Soleil, from an old issue of knitty.

Honest opinion now. Think it would work?

Baby Boom!

On my way home from work today, I ran into Jensen at Toronto General Hospital. Turns out that he and his wife are expecting their first baby! Viv is currently 18 weeks pregnant, and they will be moving into a house in less than a month from now.

With news of another baby, that's yet another opportunity for a knitted baby item. But I don't really know what to make! I mean, I just finished that sweater for Janice's baby so I don't really feel like making another sweater. But a blanket just seems so daunting. Any ideas? Booties? Hat? Toys? Maybe this is my chance to get in on the amigurumi chrochet craze. Who knows really.

FOS: Baby Sweater

From Knitting

Here's the skinny on it:
Material: 1 1/3 skeins Patons Classic Wool Merino in Peacock (NOTE: I made the sweater for a 16 month old)
Needles: KnitPicks Options (metal) in size 9 and 6, and corresponding dpns
Pattern: Baby Sweater by Knitting Plain and Simple

Hooray! Baby sweater finished! I'm not sure if I'm loving the roll neck and sleeves though. I think if I were to make the sweater again, I'd do it with a crew neck. On the whole, this was a very fun sweater to make up because it involves NO SEAMING! Hooray!! Though as you can tell from the picture, I've been lazy so far and haven't taken care of all the ends. I'm seriously considering decorating the sweater with something though. It looks way too boring just like that. But since we have no idea if it's going to be a boy or a girl, I'm debating what decoration to put on. I'm probably going to go with animals since that's pretty gender neutral.
