During a little mini-break from some data analysis, I discovered another project that I want to do. I'm not sure if I'm going to go through with it yet though. It's the Tasha bag from knitty. But I kinda want to add a flap over the top of it...plus I think I want it a little bigger than the 9"x10" that the pattern gives you. And on top of that, I have no idea if I'm going to have to line the bag.
Opinions?

What a cute little bag! I have never knit a bag, so I'm not very good for bag-y advice. But, I think if you make it much bigger than the 9"x10" you might have to line it, especially since it'll fit just that much more stuff which will be just that much heavier. Or, if you were just gonna like carry around really light stuff like yarn + needles, you might be able to get away with not.
As for adding a flap....would you just pick up stitches from the cable edging? Or, I suppose you could do away with the edging altogether since one of them would be hidden by the flap anyway....

Wow...good points. I was thinking of making it around 11"x12"x3" (the Tasha pattern is only 2" deep), and it would probably be used for kinda heavy stuff (maybe books and things like that). Hmm...so it would probably have to be lined, which I have no idea how to do right now. As for the flap covering the cable pattern, I totally forgot about that. Hmm...what do you think about just keeping the cable on the strap and on the bottom of the flap...but if I change the depth to 3", it wrecks the cable pattern, huh? ARGH!!! Maybe after all my ongoing projects are done, I'll take the pattern to Lettuce Knit and get the nice people there to help me re-vamp the pattern to my specs.
Hm. I think if you wanted to the width of the bag, you could probably keep the cable pattern on the strap, and just add like a little border to it or something. But I do agree, some expert knitting advice is probably called for. =)
